PRODUCTION OF BASIC BUILDING MATERIALS IS 70-100% DEPENDENT ON EQUIPMENT FROM EUROPE
If it is not replaced soon, there in five years the local production may face a shortage
Bricks, tiles and porcelain tiles, sanitary ceramics, self-tapping screws, sealants, aerated concrete are produced with 100% imported equipment. Manufacturers of construction chemicals depend on imported equipment by 90%, dry mixes by 80%, and mineral insulation by 70%. The production of other building materials is also significantly dependent on imported equipment, the study says. Almost all modern building materials industry in Russia has been created in the last 15–20 years using Western equipment and Western components, they are environmentally friendly, energy efficient, and provide low-cost products. Local manufacturing machinery is non-competitive.
As for products themselves, facade clinker tiles (97%), self-tapping screws and facade fasteners (85%), as well as adhesives and sealants (80%) turned out to have the largest share of imports.
The press service of the Ministry of Industry and Trade believes that the solution could be to increase the production capacity of Russian manufacturers of equipment and machinery, as well as focus consumer demand on the Asian suppliers.
