A window to Russia

What has changed in the Russian window market over two years?

In 2022, the Russian window market volume decreased by 14% compared to 2021 and reached about 30 million square meters. The decrease was caused by several reasons: new market conditions, exit of major international suppliers of components out of the market, customers’ temporary refusal to purchase windows. In addition, plastic windows for several residential complexes, business and shopping centers and other facilities commissioned in 2022 were purchased back in 2021.

The share of Russian components in modern windows reaches approximately 75%. However, in the context of specific product names, this indicator varies significantly. Russian suppliers almost completely provide window manufacturers with aluminum, slopes, glass, and PVC profiles. However, high-quality window sealants and fittings were mainly supplied from European countries. Now many Russian window manufacturers continue to search for alternatives to these products, which gives domestic companies, as well as suppliers from China and Turkey, a chance to gain a foothold in the Russian market and find new partners.

The Russian window market prospects are directly related to the current construction dynamics. The main driver is housing construction, with 131 million square meters volume as of mid-2023. While maintaining the current growth dynamics (3–5%) in the coming years enhanced by the launch of large-scale projects for the integrated development of territories, the window market will at least be fixed in its current state. As the Russian economy adapts to the new conditions, the demand for the installation of window systems may return to previous levels.
